San Diego Events - May 2017
What’s happening in San Diego in May 2017? There are a ton of great events throughout the month, from Oceanside to Chula Vista! Here are some of the best things happening this month.
Cinco de Mayo Old Town Fiesta
Friday thru Sunday, May 5-7
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo weekend at Old Town, watching lucha libra wrestling, checking out the lowriders, and listening to live music. From May 5th to 7th, over 100,000 people are expected to head to San Diego’s historic community for the 34th annual festivities.
Rhythm & Blues Music and Craft Beer Festival
Saturday, May 6
The San Diego Brewers Guild’s Rhythm & Brews music and craft beer festival will pair many of the country’s most celebrated craft breweries with local musicians for its annual bookend event. On Saturday, May 6th from 1 to 4 p.m., craft beer aficionados will gather along ‘Hop Highway’ in historic downtown Vista Village in Southern California to sample IPAs, barrel-aged brews, sour ales and much more from over 50 of San Diego’s most acclaimed breweries, all while enjoying live musical performances by Ashley Hollander and San Diego's own Grammy nominated P.O.D., while enjoying delicious eats from local food trucks.
North Park Festival of the Arts
Sunday, May 7
Explore the hip and vibrant North Park neighborhood at the 21st SDCCU Festival of Arts in North Park. This annual free festival has grown into a local tradition that includes amazing local art, exciting live music including dj sets, funk rock, world music and dance performances, vendor booths and fabulous food.
San Diego Vintage Flea Market
Sunday, May 7
The San Diego Vintage Flea Market is a great way for folks to sell and purchase interesting vintage or vintage-inspired treasures. All vintage pieces are true to the era of turn of the century to midcentury modern. Vendors offer home furnishings, bric-a-brac, clothing, and so much more - vintage-inspired items, pin-up/rockabilly style clothing and accessories, tiki infused items along with vintage-inspired music promotion.
Julian Wildflower Show
Friday thru Sunday, May 10-13
The show is free to the public.The Julian Wildflower Show has been an historical event for over 90 years. Because of Julian’s mountain valley location, bordering a national forest and close to the Anza-Borrego State Park, we have 855 species of plants within 25 miles of town, many of which were used for health and healing by Native Americans. The Show is meant to educate club members, local residents, out-of-town visitors and children about the botanical wealth of Julian and its vicinity.
With permission from landowners, club members spend two days gathering wildflowers from five plant zones. The wildflowers are displayed in the Julian Town Hall for four days. The flowers are arranged on tables representing the different geographical areas and plant zones in which they are picked.
The Queen Bee Market
Saturday and Sunday, May 12 &13
The Queen Bee Market is a fun, fresh craft boutique that features the best in home decor, accessories, baby, clothing and more! We're passionate about handmade and love the hundreds of vendors that have been a part of QBM since it's inception in 2010.
Fiesta del Sol
Saturday and Sunday, May 20 & 21, 9am to 9pm each day
Southern Califronia’s best free music festival, held at Fletcher Cove in Solana Beach, Fiesta del Sol features a diverse musical showcase providing continuous live music. The lineup is rich with rock, reggae, soul, funk, jazz, blues, Latin and worldbeat, to name a few, spanning cultures and countries from Africa to Brazil to the USA.
The Grand Ave. Festival
Sunday, May 21, 9am to 5pm
The Grand Ave Festival is one of the biggest street fairs in Southern California, with over 500 vendors, this awesome street fair has been happening since 1989… bringing unique crafts and imports, fine international cuisine and family entertainment to Historic Downtown Escondido’s Grand Avenue.
The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch
Stroll through 50 acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers at The Flower Fields. The blooms cascade down the hillside in a spectacular display of color that is sure to take your breath away. New and past visitors will be stunned at the fields of color overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
It's baseball season, and the Padres are in full swing! Head down to Petco Park to catch a game this month, it's a great time for the whole family.
